Greetings from Oregon Wood Slabyrinth!

This incredible Cherry burl would make a stunning small table or any other project you can think up! It's quite the conversation piece.

Piece measures approximately:

37" x 30" x 2"

One thing to note is that wood rounds, sometimes referred to as wood cookies, can sometimes crack. This is due to wood's natural structure. Wood has two planes: the tangential plane, which follows the growth rings, and the radial plane, which goes across the rings. When wood dries, it shrinks more along the growth rings than across them. The tangential plane shrinks about twice as much as the radial plane.

As the wood shrinks, the growth rings are put under tension, trying to shorten and compress closer to the center. The stress builds up until the wood splits. Wood cookies are the most difficult type of cut to stabilize.

Freshly cut wood needs about one year to air dry for every inch of thickness. This Cherry burl was cut over 2 years ago and has been slowly air-drying and is ready for use.
